TRBX 2018 Schedule


Friday, January 26th

Friday Social in downtown Raleigh! (6p – 8p)

Description: Come hang out with locals and early-arrivers before the kick-off dance! We’ll be meeting up in downtown Raleigh to enjoy company, food and spirits! The Big Easy is just a few doors down from our evening dance venue.

Friday Evening Dance (Lesson 8 – 9p, dance 9p – 12a)

Description: Help us kick the TRBX weekend off right! Dance to the awesome, soul-inspired blues sounds of the Al Holbrook Band in an amazing venue that dates back to 1902.

Beginner lesson at 8pm, followed by dancing to the Al Holbrook Band from 9pm – midnight.

Venue: The Stockroom at 230, 230 Fayetteville St., Raleigh, NC

At-the-door price: $20 (no student/military/senior discounts)

 

Friday Late Night Dance (12:30a – 3:30a)

Description: We’re gonna be having too much fun to stop, so at midnight we’ll leave The Stockroom and head over to our late-night venue. Top-shelf DJs spinning blues, plentiful snacks to sustain you, and hours of fabulous dancing! It may look like a plain-ol’ office building on the outside, but it’ll be rockin’ on the inside!

Venue: The Training and Education Center (“TEAC”), 2700 Gateway Centre Blvd, Suite 500, Morrisville, NC (look for the RDUBlues sign!)

Parking note: plenty of parking available in the lot in the front of the building.

At-the-door price: $15 (no student/military/senior discounts)

 


Saturday, January 27th

Saturday Classes (10:30a – 3:30p)

Description: Come hone your sweet dance moves and pick up some new ones with nationally and internationally known instructors! We’ll have three tracks of classes, so be sure to check the level descriptions to select the one that fits you the best. NOTE: the level check for the advanced track will be during the first class hour in the morning (10:30-11:30). If you’re interested in participating in the advanced track you must be in the first class at 10:30.

Parking note: lot outside the ballroom

At-the-door price: Ala-carte classes are $20 each.

Saturday Blues Talk (3:45p – 5:15p)

Description: We are incredibly excited to be bringing in two noted dancers and academics, Dr. Tommy DeFrantz and Dr. Chris Wells, for a talk about the history and cultural context of blues dance. They’ll be giving TWO blues talks, one on Saturday and one on Sunday. The Saturday blues talk is from 3:45-5:15 and can be paid for a la carte (no need to have registered for classes).

Parking note: lot outside the ballroom

At-the-door price: The blues talk is $20 at the door for those without a weekend pass (talk is included in the weekend pass).

 

Saturday Evening Dance (Lesson 8p – 9p, dance 9p – 12a)

Description: Grab some dinner after classes and then head to Carrboro for the main event! We’ll be rockin’ to Durham’s own Bull City Blues Band! UPDATE: We’re also incredibly excited to include John Dee Holeman, Tad Walters, and Chuck Cotton in the line-up for this dance! You won’t want to miss it! Between band sets we’ll have short performances from a few of our fellow dancers! It’s a great chance to see some lovely dancing and support your friends.

Beginner lesson at 8pm, followed by dancing from 9pm-midnight.

Saturday Late Night Dance – Blues & Fusion (12:30a-4:30a)

Description: How late will you go?? We’ll be dancing all night again with two floors: one with blues and one with fusion music! This year we’ll also be featuring live fusion music from local artist JANXX from 12:30a-2:30a! You won’t want to miss it!

Venue: Triangle Dance Studios, Upstairs & Downstairs studios (the house near the front of the main parking lot)

Parking note: If the main lot is full, there is more parking in the extra lot (to your left from the driveway) and straight back, behind the Lindy Lab studio. You can also park across the street in front of Camp Bow Wow. Just don’t leave your car in these lots overnight.

Sunday, January 28th

Sunday Classes (noon – 5:00p)

Description: Come back to Southern Star Ballroom for another day of fantabulous classes with our awesome instructors!

Venue: Southern Star Ballroom, 6625 Falls of Neuse Rd, Suite 015, Raleigh, NC

At-the-door price: a la carte classes and talk are $20 each.

 

Sunday Blues Talk and Taco Bar (5:30p – 7:00p)

Description: Don’t miss our second blues talk of the weekend! Dr. Tommy DeFrantz and Dr. Chris Wells will be leading another talk/discussion about the history of blues dance. Plus, we’ll have a taco bar so we can enjoy dinner during the talk.

Description: We’ll be staying at the Southern Star for our Sunday evening dance. Practice all the things you learned in class to the groovin’ tunes of our fabulous DJs.

Sunday Late Night Dance (11pm – 2am)

Description: Are you still here? Can’t get enough dancing? Come jam with us at The Vault, a cool downstairs venue in Durham!

Venue: The Vault, 1104 Broad St., Durham, NC

Navigation Instructions: The studio is below Joe Van Gogh/The Palace International. The entrance is down the stairs at the front of the building.
