Lessons & Classes

Classes

RDU Blues currently offers beginner drop-in blues lessons from 8:00 to 9:00 pm before our Friday dances. These lessons are designed to help newer dancers get the skills they need to have a fun and safe time social dancing. There are 8 themes that rotate regularly for these drop-in beginner lessons, and each theme covers an essential topic for blues dancing. The Facebook event for a given Friday will list the theme for that evening.

We also offer intermediate lessons on the last Friday of every month from 7:00 to 8:00 pm. The topics for these vary and can be found in the Facebook event for that week’s blues dance. While these lessons are open to everyone, our target dancers are those who have a comfortable knowledge of the blues essentials (pulse, grounding, and connection) and have started to dig into the technique that underlies blues dancing.

If you want more personalized instruction, private lessons are a great option. Contact the instructors below for rates and details, or talk to them at a dance.

Workshops

We bring out-of-town instructors to our scene a few times a year. These workshops are a great opportunity to learn from world-class teachers without having to travel! Plus, these teachers usually have room for a few private lessons while they’re in town. Keep an eye on Facebook and our Special Events page to find out about upcoming workshops.

Practicing

Classes and lessons alone aren’t enough – you’ve also got to get out there and practice! Please come to Dance Blues Friday and Dance Fusion Saturday and dance with us!
